If you use regular gas in a lexus is250, can you switch to premium gas without damaging the car?

I'm looking at getting a 2006 or 2007 lexus is250. First off, I'm wondering what type of gas type i'm supposed to use. I'ver heard people have used regular gas and premium. Also, if the car I buy has always used regular gas and I start using premium, will it damage the car at all?

ZaraHaus 		it should say it in your owner's manual. some times it also says it somewhere around the cap for the tank gas. why would you change the gas? if it runs well on that one, just keep using it.. and no, it doesn't damage the car at all... it just helps the car run smoother

pTracy 		87 octane burns slower than 93 octane. If the engine was set up for a specific octane you should use only that. 93 doesn't clean anything better, it doesn't help with horsepower if your car was not designed for it. The computer tells the engine what mixture of air and fuel it needs to be most efficient. These mixtures will differ with different octane preferences. So, long story short, using a different octane than recommended can harm horse power because the system is either running too rich or too lean. This refers to the amount of gas/air in each cylinder during the ignition and power strokes. So, while it may not damage the car it could trigger a check engine light and/or make the car run poorly and cost YOU more money in gas. Use the octane rating the car is designed for. Look in the owners manual or somewhere near the fuel gauge or gas door. Or call a dealership. Good luck

TJakobs 		their is no point, you should maintain your car with oil changes and use synthetic oil

MTMRocks 		Higher octane fuel (premium) will not harm your engine. At the least, it may increase mileage and horsepower, at the most it will be wasted as heat and the money spent on the higher fuel wouldn't be worth it.
